1. Overview
LiftOff ("we", "us", "our") operates the product launch and discovery platform at lift-off.sh. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and your rights over it.
By using LiftOff, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account and Profile Information
When you sign in via Google or GitHub, we receive your name, email address, and profile avatar from that OAuth provider. We do not receive or store your password.
During onboarding, you provide:
- A display name and a unique profile slug
- A short bio
- A profile avatar (either from your OAuth provider or uploaded directly)
- Optionally: links to your personal website and social profiles (Twitter/X, Bluesky, GitHub, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Telegram)
Product Submission Data
When you submit a product, we collect:
- Product name, URL, tagline, and description
- Logo and screenshot images you upload
- Category selection, pricing model, and social media tags (Twitter/X handle, Bluesky handle)
- Selected launch plan (Free, Featured, Boost, or All-In) and the launch date
Checkout and Billing Information
When you start or complete checkout for a paid plan, advertisement, sponsorship, or promotional placement, our payment and communications service providers may process information needed to support that transaction, including your email address, selected offering, checkout status, product-submission or campaign details, transaction identifiers, billing records, and related timestamps. We do not store your full payment card details.
Notification and Newsletter Information
When you create an account, we use your email address to send service, informational, newsletter, and marketing emails in accordance with your notification preferences and applicable law. You can change your preferences or unsubscribe from newsletter and marketing emails at any time by using the link in those emails or by contacting us.
Interaction Data
We record interactions you take on the platform, including upvotes, saves, and comments you post. Comments are publicly visible and linked to your profile.
Fuel and Mission Data
We track your Fuel balance, Fuel tier, lifetime Fuel earned, mission progress, and Fuel transactions. This data is used to operate the gamification system.
Usage and Technical Information
When you access the platform, our infrastructure (Appwrite) may log standard request metadata, including IP addresses, browser type, and timestamps. We do not operate independent analytics tracking beyond this.
Local Storage
Your OAuth provider avatar URL may be cached in your browser's local storage to avoid redundant API calls on each page load.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account and profile
- Display your product listings, comments, and public profile to other users
- Process product submissions and manage launch scheduling
- Operate the Fuel and missions systems
- Facilitate payment processing for paid plans, advertisements, sponsorships, and promotional placements through third-party service providers
- Send transactional communications where necessary (e.g. billing-related messages)
- Send limited follow-up messages about unfinished paid-offering checkouts, where permitted by law and your communication preferences
- Send service, informational, newsletter, and marketing emails in accordance with your notification preferences and applicable law
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and fraudulent activity
- Improve and maintain platform stability and performance
For newsletter and marketing emails, we rely on your consent unless applicable law allows another basis, such as a limited soft opt-in for existing users. Withdrawing consent, changing preferences, or unsubscribing does not affect emails already sent or service-related communications we are allowed to send.
4. Information Shared With Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
Infrastructure: Appwrite
LiftOff is built on Appwrite, which provides our database, authentication, file storage, and serverless compute infrastructure. Your data is stored and processed in Appwrite's systems. Appwrite acts as a data processor on our behalf.
Payment and Checkout Processing
When you start or complete checkout for a paid plan, advertisement, sponsorship, or promotional placement, your payment and related checkout communications are handled by third-party service providers. We share only the information needed to process the transaction, provide billing support, prevent fraud, keep required records, and send permitted follow-up or transactional messages. These providers may retain payment and checkout records in accordance with their own privacy policies and applicable law.
OAuth Providers: Google and GitHub
When you sign in via Google or GitHub, those providers share your name and avatar with us. Your use of those providers is governed by their own privacy policies.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of LiftOff, our users, or the public.
5. Public Information
The following information is visible to anyone visiting the platform, including unauthenticated visitors:
- Your profile (display name, slug, bio, avatar, website, social links)
- Products you have submitted
- Comments you have posted
- Upvote counts and save counts on products (individual user upvote and save records are only visible to authenticated users)
Please do not post anything in public-facing fields that you wish to keep private.
6. Cookies and Session Management
LiftOff uses session cookies managed by Appwrite to keep you signed in. These are strictly necessary for authentication and cannot be disabled while you are logged in.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.
7. Data Retention
- Profile and product data is retained for as long as your account remains active.
- Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, your profile and directly associated data are removed. Some records (such as anonymized interaction counts on products) may be retained for platform integrity purposes.
- Comments: Deleted comments are removed from public display. Database records may be retained briefly for moderation purposes before permanent deletion.
- Payment records: Transaction records required for legal or accounting purposes are retained in accordance with applicable law.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data. You can initiate this from your dashboard settings.
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
- Objection / Restriction: Object to or request that we restrict certain processing of your data.
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have these rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will respond to valid requests within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy
LiftOff is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
